German journalism prize awarded – CMS Hasche Sigle as sponsor

In a ceremony on Monday the lucky winners of the Germany's major journalism prize were chosen. CMS Hasche Sigle supports "djp" because good, serious and even critical journalism is invaluable in the complex world of the global economy, and it is becoming more important as a source of information in many fields. djp sponsors and awards outstanding performance in German economic and financial journalism. Entries for 25 prizes totalling EUR 72,000 were announced of which 23 were awarded. Prize money of EUR 14,000 per topic was awarded, distributed amongst five winners in each category. The invitation is associated with specific social commitment: In addition to the personal money prize each winner is entitled to nominate a non-profit organisation which the sponsors also support with a donation. Together with the prize money not awarded EUR 18,000, or a quarter of the total prize money, is donated to non-profit initiatives and projects in cultural, social and educational fields.
95 articles were accepted for final presentation to the members of the jury from a total of 371 submitted contributions, written by 227 salaried editors and freelance journalists. The jury consisted of 46 members from the fields media, industry and science. For each topic half of the expert jury was comprised of experienced journalists, including the editor in chief of the Financial Times Deutschland, Börsen-Zeitung, Euro am Sonntag, Reuters and Spiegel Online and the head of the German School of Journalism in Munich. The other members of the jury are representatives of the sponsors, well-known scientists and renowned representatives of the industries.
