Further training
Our goal is easy to describe: we want to be up there with the best in the industry. The key to this is personality, presentation and excellent credentials. For this reason we encourage continuing professional development and expect your active participation in our development programme.
From the start of your career through to partnership, we will provide input on legal issues, methodology and language skills. The focus of the various courses will depend on your practice area. Our training courses cover four areas:
1. Specialist legal training
The training programme focuses on specialist courses. Associates and partners are informed of
the latest issues, legislation and market trends.
2. Cross-disciplinary legal issues
Undertaking continuing professional development in your own legal specialism alone is not
enough. The second module therefore includes events on legal issues that span various disciplines.
This allows our team to gain an overview of all areas of the firm. Current market developments and
information about competitors and clients are designed to highlight how different practice areas
overlap, giving people a broader understanding of our business. These insights help people know
when it is time to call in a specialist.
3. Soft skills
This cross-disciplinary legal training is complemented by courses designed to enhance soft
skills. This includes specific training relating to social and communication skills, as well as
language training.
4. The road to partnership
The fourth area of our training programme is geared towards preparing for partnership. In
close consultation with your mentor, a programme of further training is put together that covers
leadership, presentation techniques and negotiation. Training courses at the CMS Academy also help
individuals prepare for the future role of partner.
