Born in Rome in 1939. Raised in the Tyrol. Secondary school education in Heidelberg until Abitur(A Levels) in 1958. Studied law initially at Ruprecht Karl University in Heidelberg, and subsequently at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich taking first state exam (Erstes Juristisches Staatsexamen) in 1964, followed by legal studies in the USA at Princeton and Harvard (LL.M. 1966) on scholarship from Deutscher Akadamischer Austauschdienst (German Academic Exchange Programme). Return to Munich, completed second state exam (Zweites Juristisches Staatsexamen) and doctorate (1969). With CMS since 1969. Partner since 1975.
