Born in Hamburg in 1951 and grew up there. Abitur(A levels) in humanities. Military service in the navy. Studied law 1974-1979. First part of degree (Erstes Juristisches Staatsexamen). Assistant at University of Hamburg, 1979/80. Second part of degree (Zweites Juristisches Staatsexamen), 1982. Joined law firm Fischötter & Micheli, partner since 1986. Involved in civil and competition law, subsequently in trade marks and developing the trade mark department.
