Born on 03.01.1947 in Hameln. Abitur (A Levels) in 1966 at the Comenius secondary school in Düsseldorf. Then studied law at the University of Heidelberg and the University of Bonn. First state exam in 1971 in Bonn. Second state exam in Wiesbaden in 1974. Then started practising as a lawyer in the law firm of Peltzer & Riesenkampff in Frankfurt am Main. Subsequently practised as a lawyer for one year in the US. Appointed notary in 1989. Editor and co-author of German/English commentaries and translations of important German commercial laws. From 1990 until 1998, twice directly elected representative in the German Parliament; therein member of the legal committee; speaker of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in two inquiry committees and from 1996 until 1998 legal counsel for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group.
