Born in 1955. Attended school in Essen/Ruhr District (Germany) and Neuchâtel (Switzerland). Military service with the air force, reserve officer. Studied law at the universities of Bonn (Germany) and Santander (Spain). First state law exam in 1980. Traineeship in Hamburg including a position abroad in Chicago, USA. 1983 second state law exam and commencement of work as a lawyer. Since 1986 partner of the Hamburg law firm Hasche Albrecht Fischer (now: CMS Hasche Sigle), 1996 to 1999 Managing Partner thereof. Specialisation in the areas of corporate and maritime law. From 1999 to 2011 Managing Partner of the law firm CMS Hasche Sigle, with9 locations in Germany and more than 600 lawyers. As Managing Partner, initiated and negotiated various mergers, consolidating individual law firms into a cross-regional law firm and integrating CMS Hasche Sigle in the international CMS organisation CMS Legal.Tax established in 1999, which now has 55 offices worldwide. Since 1999 member of the Executive Committee of CMS Legal.Tax, 2008 to 2011 Chairman thereof. From 2011 Executive Chairman of CMS Legal.Tax and Senior Partner of CMS Hasche Sigle.
