Born in Wuppertal in 1950. Abitur (A Levels) in 1968 (Wilhelm Dörpfeld Gymnasium). Spent one year studying at a US junior college (Georgia). Law studies at Universities of Freiburg and Kiel. University assistant at the University of Kiel (Criminal law - Prof. Dr E. Samson) and doctorate. After second state exam (Zweites Juristisches Staatsexamen) in 1979, started at law firm of "Fischötter Micheli & Partner" becoming a partner 1981 and specialising in IP.
